The TagMyDog
Story, about us |
Jessica
Luthi - Aging punk rocker / rock ex biker lass, got
into the fashion sector by a strange twist of fate.
Has worked with the likes of ASOS, UrbanityStore,
DesignerPitstop, The Otto Group, TruffleShuffle,
Discoo, EBTM, Adili and is still very active in the
fashion industry from a marketing perspective. Jess
is CEO of
AffiliateProgramAdvice.com and Director of E
Geeks Ltd. Jessica's passion is the internet in
terms of pushing the boundaries, tapping into niche
and new areas. Ideas, Jess has no shortage of and E
Geeks Ltd is the research, ideas and development hub
of new and innovative projects. Some of her more
lesser known achievements is winning the mixed
double pool player championships in Brighton, with
her then partner, Alex "scotch" Shennan,
professional pool player. Managing to get a gig at
Dingwalls, Camden Town Music venue, with her
then band, Ideal Concept. Winning runner up
for the short films category on Channel 4 "Ark
light" based on the Vietnam War. First media
exposure was being advertised in a news paper under
the heading "Adopt me!", she was then but 18mnths
old, that was Jess's first successful media campaign
and she has never looked back! |
Chuck
Couch - If you ask Chuck nicely he will send you a
few of his songs from when he was in a band. If you
like Rock, you will like his sounds. When Chuck is
not being a potential rock god, you can find him
over at
Studio3k.com. Chuck is the President of this
full service design agency and web development which
started in '94. Chuck can boast an impressive client
list which include Coca-Cola, Universal Studios,
Pepsi, Miller Lite, Budweizer to name but a few.
Chuck spends his time between Sunny Florida and L.A
in the US. Chuck's passion for the internet and
embracing new technologies means he is always on the
ball in terms of emerging technology and trends. You
can find Chuck on all the social networking
platforms, myspace, facebook and heaps of other
networking sites and we have our doubts that Chuck
ever sleeps. |
Wouter
Mols - Pictured with a boa constrictor around his
neck! This is typically Wouter, his ethos is about
having fun even while you work. Wouter is Dutch born
and raised and has worked within the IT and Software
development industry for the last twenty two years.
His obsession with software development means that
he is unlike most, in the sense that, there is very
little he cant do, in fact we have yet to find a
project where by he comes back and says, it cant be
done. Its rare when you work with a software
developer that they are intuitive and can feed back
in layman's terms. Wouter, we feel is a technical
genius, whom we could not do without. Wouter is CEO
of DDeveloper.com and has a growing list of clients.
Wouter has developed the software behind tagmydog
and works closely with Jessica on some of her other
projects. |
So
how did tagmydog get started?
pictured left, this is actually what the old
tagmydog logo looked like and if you really are
curious or just bored or both, you can see what the
site looked like up until quite recently
here just copy and paste
www.tagmydog.com
Jess got curious about how to put a website
together, as she had entered an industry called
affiliate marketing and she wanted to understand the
processes involved, so that she could better
understand web masters/affiliates and how they put
websites together. The actual name for the website
came about out of a discussion, in which, Jess had
eves dropped into a conversation between her teenage
son and his friends. Jessica, naturally assuming
that because her son and his friends were into hip
hop, the reference to Tag My Dog, she thought was to
do with Dog Tags, as in the fashion accessory and
identity tags. At the time a popular school yard
phrase amongst young males in the UK "smack
my bitch up" which has its origins in a mix of
thrash metal and hip hop music. Jess found the
praise a bit offensive and in retaliation but
keeping in theme of fashion, and being respectful,
TagMyDog.com, the name was born. The name covered
quite a few areas, fashion, linked in to dog tags as
in Jewellery, had a hip hop tone, was a nice but
polite way of saying to guys who refer to women as
bitches, we got your number there fella! The
interpretation could also mean women looking for
clothes for their guys. The biggest plus side, it
was/is a memorable name.
It should be noted that the Joke was on Jessica, as
what her son and friends had actually been
commenting on, back in the day, was the introduction
of new tagging system for dogs, called a pet
passport, go figure! So there you have it!

Above is a screen
grab from when Jessica first started out developing
TagMyDog, the date is 21/01/04. Jess and Wouter had
already been working together on a number of
projects but as you can see, neither Jess nor Wouter
were any good graphics. It was on Elance where
Jessica would Discover Studio3k a year or so later
for a different project. But clearly you can now see
how all three people, despite living miles apart got
connected.
TagMyDog.com was only ever a testing platform for
Jessica to carry out her own tests with regards to
new technology emerging in affiliate marketing. It
was never meant to be a serious website, hence
months of neglect, getting kicked out of the search
engines, being reinstated, endlessly researching.
The site served it's purpose which was that Jessica
could now relate to affiliates and all that they
undertake. TagMydog was done and dusted and no
longer needed and was due for the scrap heap this
year, until Chuck made a comment about it and said
he wanted to get his head around the mechanics of
affiliate marketing. Theory will always be easy but
the doing... that's the hard part. So unlike the
Titanic, we intend to raise TagMyDog.co.uk and .com
and give this baby a real identity and a real life
and even while you read this, you are actually
helping to turn a lot of nothing into a lot of
something.
Thanks from Jess, Chuck and Wouter! |
